This couldn't be an easier recipe:
Equal parts of Crisco and white corn syrup are mixed together. I usually make a batch with 2/3 cup of each. Add a pinch or two of salt, according to how big of a mixture you are making. You will get a very soft, opaque, sticky mixture.
Pour this into the center of a big pile of powdered sugar, which you have pre-sifted and placed in a big bowl. You will probably need more powdered sugar than you think. I usually just start with a full 2-pound bag.
Start pulling the powdered sugar in from the edges and working it into the syrup mixture with your finger tips. Eventually, the mass will be thick enough to knead. At that point, remove it from the bowl, place it on waxed paper with additional powdered sugar and knead, adding powdered sugar until it is of a consistency that can be rolled. It should look and feel a lot like Play-doh. Add desired flavorings and colorings during the kneading process.
Can be kept for several days on the countertop in an airtight container or bag.
